God meets us on the mountaintops, but He keeps us in the valleys.

I’ve been so intrigued lately by the word “keep” in scripture.

It’s a little word, but it speaks a loud message to those who feel unseen, hidden in the valley, those in desperate need of not only being kept, but being held, safe and secure in the arms of a Savior.

Before we can be kept by Him, we must be found in Him by surrendering our lives to Him, confessing sin, and being born again (John 3).

I love that I get to share God’s Word with others. Weekend retreats and conferences, even small groups and Bible studies, can be mountaintop experiences.

God shows up and shows off! When He is welcomed by praise and worshiped with adoration, He meets with us. He teaches us. He convicts us. He moves in us and through us.

It is such a beautiful reminder of the power of His promises, found only in His Word, and the peace of His presence, found only by doing things His Way. In fact, His Word is the only Truth, and His son is the only Way (John‬ ‭17‬:‭17‬, John‬ ‭14‬:‭6‬‬‬).

Mountaintops are lovely, aren’t they? The journey is exhilarating, and the views are breathtaking. And while mountaintops are meaningful, we live in the valleys where days can be dark and views can be hidden, where life must be lived out, hard has to happen, and hurts have to heal.

Mountaintop experiences and spiritual highs give us needed boosts when we need them most, but the same God who moves us on the mountaintops also proves Himself faithful in the valleys.

We may see His miracles more clearly from that pinnacle perspective, but He sees our deepest pain and knows our deepest need in the depths of the valley, because He’s not only been there, He chose to be there, and His great love for us kept Him there. The same love that kept him there, keeps us, holds us fast, reminds us this too shall pass.

So, climb those mountains and behold the splendor of His glory, and then return to the valley to be held by the beauty of His grace. It’s something we’ll never fully grasp this side of Eternity, but it is something He will always freely give until He returns for all who believe ‭‭(Psalm‬ ‭121‬:‭1‬-‭8‬).
