Praying for your People (When seeking Him leads to Praying for Them)

“Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight” (Proverbs‬ ‭9:9‬-10, ESV).

Giving some thought to these verses as I pray over my boys men (and my daughter-in-law, too)!

I pray over my people everyday — a mix of generic and specific prayers are offered up for them and undergirded with God’s Word, but this morning this verse leapt off the page and into my heart, so I’m taking it back to the Father on their behalf.

We are to “stand on His promises“ because they provide the surest, safest, steadiest foundation to this life we are living. No amount of education, motivation, determination, or ambition can replace Godly wisdom.

Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not advocating for laziness or encouraging complacency. I am, however, advocating for passionately praying for them before any advice or instruction is given. Our words to the Father are more powerful than our words to our people.

What do you say we storm the gates of heaven on behalf of our people today? I’d love for you to join me in this prayer...

Father, in the name of Jesus, would you encourage and equip our husbands and children with every ounce of Godly wisdom they need for today (2 Peter 1:3, James 1:5).

I thank you that your mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).

I thank you that you are faithful and that you will never leave them nor forsake them (Deuteronomy 31:8).

I thank for going before them today and for guiding and providing for them along the way (Psalm 85:13, Psalm 139:5).

Search their hearts today, God. Know their anxious thoughts. On their behalf, I lay those thoughts at the foot of the cross (Psalm 139:23).

Thank you for loving them enough to carry every burden for them (Psalm 55:22, Matthew 11:28-30).

I pray your divine wisdom would replace any stinking thinking the enemy has placed in their mind to deter or distract them (2 Peter 1:3, 2 Corinthians 10:5).

In the name of Jesus, keep these mighty men (and woman) of God close to your side today (Psalm 121:5,8).
