A Priority that will Literally Change Your Life {Transformation > Demonstration}
/I am not a good multitasker, so when I try to multitask, all the individual things I’m trying to accomplish get a fraction of my effort and intentionality, and therefore all fall short of their full potential.
That being said, I’m learning, for me personally, less is more. One thing at a time. When I prioritize and simplify, the task at hand gets my undivided attention, and instead of starting lots of things and finishing none of them, I not only start the most important thing on the list, but I finish it with excellence.
I know we all have endless to do lists, but the one thing that should take precedence about it all is to daily spend time with Jesus (in God’s Word and in prayer). Like with any of those tasks on our to do lists, getting started, just doing it, and following through with it (walking daily with Jesus, that is) will put us on a path of not just heart change, but transformation from our head to our toes.
A new mindset (head) can change our perspective (eyes) can change our emotions (heart) and can change our direction and pace (feet). Holistically walking with our Holy God will change us wholly and completely!
God wants not only an outward demonstration of our faith, but an inward transformation that will move us to action. The action can’t become before the transaction — His righteousness for our sinfulness. We have to be broken by sin. We have to rend our heart before He can tend our heart.
All this happens when we slow down long enough to recognize our need for Him, our need for change, and then realize nothing in our life will change if we don’t rearranged our schedule and task and focus on the thing that matters most — our relationship with Him, our great need for Him, and our complete dependence on Him.
I’ve been reading “Pilgrim Prayers” by Tim Challies, and this poetic prayer from my reading today was whispered aloud through tears as the Holy Spirit reminded me to simply be…
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” (Psalm 46:10, ESV)
“Father of Mercies, in Thy Word” by Anne Steele
Father of mercies, in Thy Word
What endless glory shines!
Forever be Thy name adored
For these celestial lines.
Here may the blind and hungry come,
And light and food receive;
Here shall the lowliest guest have room
And taste and see and live.
Hear spring of consolation rise
To cheer the fainting mind,
And thirsting souls, receive supplies,
And sweet refreshment fine.
Hear the Redeemer’s welcome voice
Spreads heavenly peace around,
And life and everlasting joys
Attend the blissful sound.
O may these hallowed pages be
My ever dear delight,
And still new beauties may I see,
And still increasing light.
Divine instructor, gracious Lord,
Be Thou forever near;
Teach me to love Thy sacred word,
And view my Savior here.
He is a Holy God, and He wants to be wholly known by those He created to be in relationship with Him.
His Word is Holy as well, and His Son is that Word made flesh, the very embodiment of His holiness, so why would we not want to read, receive, and release it so that it may do the work it was intended to do intimately in our own hearts and intentionally beyond what our finite minds can even fathom?
So, what do you say? Are you willing to prioritize Him today over all the other things — maybe even really good things? Are you willing to place Him, His Word, His Son at the top of your list, and allow the Holy Spirit to use that act of obedience to change you from the inside out?
If you answered yes to either of those questions, I’d love to challenge you to tell someone about it today. Tell me! I’ll rejoice with you, and I’d love to walk alongside you in this step of faith and obedience.
